14 Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
The following highly disturbing icons are from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. The fourth installment in the Apes series, this prequel/sequel takes place twenty years after Cornelius & Zira come back in time to pre-ape Earth & are brutally murdered by the human government. (Even though they were from the future, so no matter what humans do the world will still be taken over by apes eventually... Hasn't this movie seen any other movies?) Their super-intelligent baby was rescued & hidden away by a benevolent circus owner, brilliantly portrayed by the ever-subtle Ricardo Montalban. Conquest takes place in the bleak futuristic wasteland of 1991, where eight years prior a plague from space (that's what I said) has managed to wipe out every dog & cat in the world. Humans were forced to replace their beloved housepets with apes; they soon discovered that these new pets were very easy to train, & decided to enslave them. Now, for some reason, after allowing him to live in ignorant bliss for the past twenty years (but apparently teaching him American history as well as training him to speak with a British accent), the circus owner brings the highly-evolved son of Cornelius & Zira to the dangerous big city. The heir eventually names himself Caesar & leads the slaves in an ape revolution. (Yes, that's right; in an ironic twist, the son of the human-loving Cornelius & Zira is the very instigator who encourages the apes to subordinate the humans in the first place.) Have I mentioned this film is also an allegory for race relations? Oh yeah, it's magnificent.

I'm suprised you don't want any of the OTP or apesex ones, since you practically begged me to make them. ;)

'Tis a crazy piece of work. I cringed making the OTPs (since it's slash AND interspecies, making it doubly taboo), but I couldn't help it.

Creepy OTP icons are the only ones worth making. I mean, who makes SERIOUS OTP icons? (Other than half of my friends list.)

I feel so left out with my not-having-seen-this-movie-ness.

Don't feel left out, you're with a zillion other people. Rent it if you really want to. It's good times.

(The OTP is between Caesar the ape & the guy who owns the circus where he grew up, essentially his father figure. But they're so... touchy. Caesar doesn't go nuts 'til he hears that the circus guy was murdered [OH NOES SPOILERZ]. Combine that with the fact that Caesar is played by Roddy McDowall [notorious F.A.G.] & the fact that any reason is a good reason to put Ricardo Montalban in an icon, & there you have the OTP of it all.)

    Thanks! I took #1 and #11.

BTW, I thought Caesar had already been named at the time of the scene in the governor's office where he chooses a name. I'm pretty sure Armando used the name Caesar. The governor was suspicious because Caesar seemed to know exactly what name to choose. "Caesar! A king!"

I don't know, I'd have to watch it again. I think he just chose that name in the governor's office because he knew it meant "king." I don't remember what Armando called him, but when he was born at the end of Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Zira & Cornelius named him Milo, after a fellow ape scientist who went back in time with them & was murdered early in the film by a caged gorilla. I only remember that because I have the poster:

I checked the movie and Armando does use the name Caesar in a very early scene. It is right after he and Caesar land in the helicopter and are met by guards.

I don't understand why Armando would change the name from Milo. PLOT HOLE.

Perhaps Armando thought if Caesar kept the name Milo, his identity would be easier to reveal.

Speaking of Milo and plot holes, I always wondered why the female chimp (Heloise) would agree to swap her baby and Milo. Although Zira says she and Heloise "understand each other," I find it odd that Heloise would give up her baby.

Yeah, after I posted my last comment I figured maybe Heloise's baby was named Caesar & when Armando switched the babies he also switched the names. And maybe Heloise gave up her baby because she instinctively trusted Zira, I really don't know.
